STAPLES — A shed and 500 large square bales of straw were destroyed by fire Friday, Aug. 9, in Wadena County.
The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 10:14 p.m. of a structure fire in section 27 of Thomastown Township. Emergency personnel arrived to find a shed on fire. In speaking with the homeowner, Bruce Berg of Staples, it was learned his brother, Kenneth Berg of Staples, was stacking straw in the shed. The shed was left for a short time to retrieve more straw and when Berg returned, the straw and shed were on fire, the sheriff’s office reported.
It is unknown how the fire started and no foul play is suspected. No other structures were damaged and no one was injured.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Staples Fire Department, Verndale Fire Department and Ideal Construction.
