Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is the clear leader once again in The Athletic’s penultimate Heisman straw poll, netting 95 points (and 27 first-place votes) to hold off Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray’s 75 points (and seven first-place votes). Though Tagovailoa has been the wire-to-wire No. 1, this is the closest the gap between him and No. 2 has been since The Athletic’s first poll, after Week 3, when Tagovailoa topped Murray 69-54.
The Athletic’s voting protocol follows that of the actual Heisman Trophy voting: three points for a first-place vote, two points for a second-place vote, one point for a third-place vote.
