Straw bale decorating begins in Marine City | Life – New Baltimore Voice Newspapers

Residents, businesses and nonprofits can once again decorate straw bales to make Marine City festive for this year’s Pumpkin Palooza Party.

Bales will be delivered by Sept. 23 and must be decorated by Sept. 30.

Those who would like to show off their creativity during the fourth annual International Marine City Comic Convention should complete their creation by Sept. 28.

“Last year we started the straw bale decorating contest and it was a huge hit with our visitors,” Marine City Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Erika DeLange said.

Judging will take place the week of Sept. 30 by an outside judge.

The winners of the contest in the categories of best business, best nonprofit and best family will be announced at the fourth annual Pumpkin Palooza Party Oct. 5.

Participating businesses will have their bale located in front of their store if it is located on Broadway, Chartier, Parker and Water streets. Family participants’ bales will be located in Drake or Nautical Mile parks on Water Street.

All bales will be numbered and labeled with the names of the participants, who are asked to decorate onsite and make sure materials used for decorations will withstand the elements.
