Writing my first manuscript ever! I am in a wildlife ecology program so will be submitting to journal related to ecology/biology/wildlife/conservation. How did you decide what figures should go in the main text versus the appendix versus supplementary material?

Corey Bradshaw over at Conservation Bytes recommends listing your figures in importance (in terms of how much they contribute to your main message), including your top 6 in the article and putting the rest in Supplementary.

It would be a good idea to pick a journal you’re aiming towards before you start writing. Many have limits on the number of tables, figures, and words they’ll accept.

Good luck and remember to not take peer review personally.
